This was a fun chalk drawing to do. If you look the red part of the watermelon is heart shaped. That is where the talk started- the condition of the human heart. The cross represents salvation and the dark spots (seeds) represent problems of the old flesh in our lives. The inner rind (light green, yellow) was a picture of the Holy Spirit “overwhelming” the newborn heart, which then begins to develop love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control. At this point I finish the outside rind and there you have it: the fruit of the Spirit. I think a refreshing watermelon is a great picture of a Spirit controlled heart. Do you have any friends who refresh you when when you are feeling faded?
A Spirit controlled life is such a refreshing thing to run into when you’re at a low ebb in your life. Sort of like eating a cool watermelon on a hot summer day.
